The weather here...

...Is soooo wierd. We went to the park today after school and met up with our friends. We both thought, the weather is so warm, we need to get out and enjoy it. My suburban said 83 degrees when I got out, about an hour and a half later when we got back in the car it said 60 degrees. That is right, it dropped 23 degrees in the middle of the day. What the heck. You could feel it coming, but it still was strange. Amy and I, of course, were freezing, and the kids could not care less. They kept saying they were warm and didn't want to leave. So we let them play to their hearts content and then headed home when the two adults couldn't take the cold wind and dropping temps any longer. Oh well, I know soon enough, it will be 95 degrees and 100% humidity every day, and we won't have these wild swings in temperature anymore.

Sleeping Arrangements

This weekend, Chris was asking Ryan if the baby could use his old room since he was a big boy now and slept with Brandon. Chris explained that we were going to set up his old crib and let the baby sleep in it. Much to his surprise, Ryan was not ok with this. He said we needed to make their beds very tall (meaning make them bunkbeds) and put the crib in their room so they could all share a room. He said, "No Dad, the baby will be lonely, he needs to sleep with us." That wild child can be so sweet sometimes.

Snow Day

Except this one wasn't real snow, as Brandon said, it's just ice. The boys had their snow day at school today. Each year they bring in this company that makes fake snow in the yard and the kids go to town. It is so fun. Again, my apologies to my family in Michigan who are suffering through a very cold winter and lots of snow, but here in Texas, this stuff is entertaining to us. This year, they brought a slide and the kids could sled down it in little saucers. Ryan must have run up and down that thing like 10 times. Brandon just wanted to throw snowballs at his friends. That right there defines my two children's personalities....Ryan the adrenaline junkie, and Brandon just content to do what his friends want to do. I had to scrounge up the winter clothes, so please enjoy the funny outfits the two of them have on. Brandon is wearing mud boots that we took to Alabama, and Ryan has on giraffe rain boots, but I thought their feet might get a little cold in crocs (and wet too). The Mickey hat is the only one we have right now that is not a Santa hat, and the gloves were borrowed from Amy. Ryan refused to put them on the right hands. All of this just added to my entertainment. Anyway, it was a great day.

This is what snow in Texas looks like, mud.

Where did the weekend go??

It really is Monday again?? This weekend flew by. Friday night, the boys had an open gym thing at their gymnastics. A whole hour of uninterupted gymnastics fun. They could do whatever they wanted, play on the bars, jump on the trampolines, jump in the foam pits, walk on the beams, climb the wall. They did not stop moving. They were exhausted when we left, but it was a great night. I worked on Saturday, so I missed my guys all day, but from what I hear, they had fun and active day. Sunday, we went to the boat show. WooHoo. We will never own a boat. I get horribly sea sick, so it seems pretty out of the question, but it was fun to check them out. They even had a few "luxury yachts" that you could take little tours of (while the salespeople looked on, trying not to have a heart attack that your 3 year old is climbing on the couches, and opening the little bathroom doors, ahhhh good times). We also got to look at about 100 camping trailers. Yes, we would like to be those people that you all hate driving down the freeways with their HUGE trailers following behind. It is unlikely we ever will be, but it is fun to look at them. I would love to camp more, but not sure about the logistics of camping with a 3 and 5 year old and pregnant belly, a travel trailer would make it a little easier, at least there would be air conditioning.

So again, in the "Brandon doesn't understand why my stomach is getting big" category....We were walking into one of the "luxury" boats this weekend, but another family was trying to leave while we got on. I told Brandon to wait because there wasn't room for the people and my pregnant belly to pass at the same time. Brandon looked at me, patted my belly, and asked quite loudly, "Mom, did you eat too much for lunch, is that why your tummy is so big?" The people passing us got a very good laugh for the day, and I am about to give up on explaining what is going on with my belly. Oh well, it is always entertaining.

The Take Home Outfit

So, we bought the baby his take home outfit over Christmas, and it is sooo cute. Let me start by saying, none of my children have ever made it home in their take home outfit. Avery was about half the size we were expecting so the cute "Take Me Home" pjs didn't really fit. Also, we had to make a beeline out of the hospital since she was doing so bad, that I don't even remember what she was wearing, but it was nothing special. Strike 1. Next with Brandon, we didn't have the whole diapering a boy thing down and he had soaked his outfit before I even got discharged. Strike 2. Then came Ryan, we had wised up, knew how to diaper a boy, and even decided to wait until the very last second to put his clothes on him, well, while I was putting his diaper on, he did that whole boy spray thing and his outfit was sitting right there, and well, it was in the line of fire. I had wised up that time and had a backup outfit, but it also fell victim to the projectile pooping that Ryan was famous for in his first couple weeks of life, so he came home in a hospital t-shirt with a blanket wrapped around him. Strike 3.

So, this time, I am determined that this baby is coming home in his take home outfit. I don't know how it will work, but it must. Fourth time is a charm right. It is blue and brown and has little monkeys on it. My mom also found a matching blanket at another store that will go perfect with the monkeys. I can't wait to put him in it, AND take a picture of him AT HOME in it. Wish us luck!!

This and That

First off, Happy New Year!! My friend Alicia asked me what my New Year's resolution was for 2009 and I said to have a baby, since that is about 4 months away, I think I might make it. But I will keep working on it.

Anyway, just a few random thoughts for my first post of 2009....In regards to me being pregnant, Brandon asked this weekend why my tummy is so fat. Then the next day he asked why my back is squishy. I asked if Chris put him up to saying those things, but Chris knows better, so we had to explain that there is a person growing inside of me, thus the extra padding. Nothing like questions from a 5 year old to boost the self confidence.

We went to the space center this weekend, and the boys had so much fun, they almost fell over by the time we left. I wasn't sure if they would like it very much, but they have this 5 story play area, so we would do something we wanted, then let them play, and we just went back and forth like that until they could hardly stand up anymore and then we went home, but not before we stopped at this awesome pizza place by downtown and Chris and I polished off a 16 inch pizza by ourselves, which would possibly explain some of the back squishiness I have, maybe.

The boys started gymnastics the week before Christmas, and I missed their first time because I was working, but Chris took them, so that was good. I got to take them today for their next session, and they are in love. They woke up early this morning while it was still dark asking if it was time for gymnastics yet. I wish I could take them every day, but that might take some of the fun out of it. I must say though, watching them, it is pretty clear that Ryan is the more coordinated of the two. Brandon is just so excited, he won't settle down and listen to what he is supposed to do, and he is into this whole, "let's change the rules" on everything that we play, and that doesn't go over so well at gymnastics. Hopefully he will settle in soon. But it is so fun to watch them have so much fun.

And in big news, the boys now share a room. This was totally their doing. The plan always was to move them in together before the baby came, but they wanted to do it about 2 weeks before Christmas. It started with Ryan sleeping on Brandon's floor, but now we have moved their beds in together, and they go to bed so easily now, why didn't we do this sooner. It is so cute when we leave their room, I hear Brandon say "Good Night Ryan" and Ryan says "Good Night Brandon." I love, love, love these boys.
